16 Facts You Don't Know About Lady Gaga

Unless you've been living under a rock, you won't have missed Lady Gaga's grand return to the stage. With the release of her new album Joanne, and her Carpool Karaoke episode with James Corden, we couldn't be more excited for her comeback. As we're huge fans of Mother Monster,  here are 16 facts about Lady Gaga that you might not know about her!

1. Her stage name was initially meant to be Radio Ga Ga (as inspired by Queen's song). Due to an autocorrect blunder, her producer Rob Fusari's phone accidentally changed Radio to Lady, thus Lady Gaga was born!

2.
Beady-eyed fans of The Hills may have spotted her cameo in The Hills in 2008. This was the year before the world went absolutely gaga for Gaga. The episode previewed Lauren and Whitney fixing a broken zip before she was due on stage at a Dylan George show. We know, the drama!

3. However, her first stint on MTV was actually in 2005 on the show Boiling Point. She was 19 years old at the time and the clip below shows her surprise and distaste for a less than appetising looking salad. This later turned out to be a prank, phew.

4. Ever wondered what made Lady Gaga dye her hair platinum blonde? She was once confused with Amy Winehouse in an interview which then prompted her to make the change. Do you see the resemblance?

5. It comes to no surprise that Lady Gaga was a musical whizz from an early age. In fact, she started creating music since she was just 4 years old. She taught herself to play piano by ear, wrote her first song at 13 and then performed at open mic nights the year after.

6. She has 20 tattoos (and counting) but they're all on the left side of her body. Her father requested for one side to be ink-free and "slightly normal". As a self-confessed daddy's girl, she honoured the request and names her right side, Marilyn Monroe. The tattooed side is called Iggy Pop.

7. The artwork for "Applause" is meant to be symbolise a performer's vulnerability. The smudged makeup reflects the need for the audience's approval by the end of a show.

8. Here’s some early week motivation for you. Her hits "Just Dance" and "Born This Way" were both written in just 10 minutes. How - what - wow! The latter went on to sell over 1 million tracks in its first 5 days of release. Better note down the songs you belt out in the shower.

9. This may or might not be immediately obvious, but Lady Gaga's favourite genre of music is death metal. Her songs are mainly inspired by classical and heavy metal music.

10. There’s no doubt that Lady Gaga is a songwriting genius but did you know that she wrote songs for other stars before she was famous? She penned "Quicksand" for Britney's Circus album. Not only that but "Telephone" was also meant for Brit but this was later dropped. Gaga then went on to record it with Beyonce and well, the rest is history.

11. She also wrote "Elevator" by Pussycat Dolls but used her real name, Stefani Germanotta, in the song credits.

12. The ‘mew-se’ behind her signature bow in Poker Face was none other than Hello Kitty herself!

13. Fellow Gossip Girl fans, reveal yourselves! Remember her "Bad Romance" performance in season 3? It was at the same school that Lady Gaga graduated from. The Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City was also the high school that Paris and Nicky Hilton attended. We reckon Queen B would approve.

14. If you hail the in-room WiFi when you’re abroad, then you’ll love this fact. Lady Gaga’s father was the genius behind the installation of wireless internet in hotel rooms. He started a company called Guest WiFi in 2002 and since then, our online footprints have travelled across the globe with us.

15. Her favourite tipple is Jameson Whiskey on the Rocks. A lady after our own hearts.

16. It turns out Gaga’s a lover of Great Danes! It won’t be hard to try and spot them in Paparazzi, Poker Face, Love Game, Eh Eh, Telephone, Bad Romance and Alejandro. Yeah, seems like she likes them a lot.
