P.S. If you're looking for even more karaoke inspiration, check out our round up of the top 100 karaoke songs of all time.

1) I Believe In A Thing Called Love – The Darkness

God this is a hard song! The vocal range of lead singer Justin Hawkins is just outrageous and the quick key changes leave singers sounding like an out-of-tune grown man one minute, then a tone deaf choir boy the next.

2) Video Games – Lana Del Rey

This tune can make the coldest of hearts melt. It's absolutely stunning and you could listen to it on repeat... that is, unless you start trying to sing it yourself. Then it's just that song you once crucified and made everyone's ears bleed!

3) Forgot About Dre – Eminem feat. Dr. Dre

Even if you can actually rap, this is still an impossible song to nail down. First off, you need two people who can rap – that's a struggle alone. Then you need to know the words off by heart because Eminem's double time is so fast you won't be able to read the screen quick enough! Ain't happening.

4) Hurt – Christina Aguilera

The emotion, the dramatic pauses, the gradual key changes and the stupidly high vocal range throughout the entire song – Hurt... well it hurts you. Quite literally, your vocal cords can't keep up! Any Christina song is going to be hard to sing, but Hurt is undoubtedly one of the hardest.

5) My Immortal – Evanescence

The verses trick you into believing you've got this. But as soon as you approach the chorus, you realise you've made a huge mistake! You'll end up glad you're not actually immortal so you can quietly die of shame in the corner after attempting this track.

6) Hello – Adele

Hello? Is this another Adele song? Is this another amazing but ridiculously difficult to sing Adele number? Oh yes, yes it is. Hi there – don't come near our karaoke playlist, thank you!

7) Cry Me A River – Michael Buble

If the starting note is that dramatic, it's a warning sign. It means, don't go near this song. It will not get any easier. The notes will get harder, longer, higher and you will lose the fight to sound like the Bubes*.

*Yeah, that's our nickname for Michael Buble, get over it.

8) Listen – Beyonce

Of course Queen B made the list. Of course it's Listen. You want to know why? Well, because by the time you've finished attempting (and failing) to hit the right notes in this track, nobody will want to listen.

9) Skinny Love – Birdy

It was hard enough when Bon Iver originally sung it and it's harder still when Birdy covered it. Her super high-pitch voice with its softening undertones is inimitable.

10) Stay – Shakespears Sister

Stay. Well. Away. Stay... far far away from this song at karaoke.

11) My All – Mariah Carey

Whilst Without You and Hero are impossible to command, My All is lesser known but even tougher to master. The verse is as hard as the chorus, the high notes and key changes are all over the place and you just cannot keep up!

12) Womanizer – Britney Spears

Don't let those two little words – Britney Spears – lull you into a false sense of security. This song is low, deep, high, fast, repetitive and way out of our comfort zone.

13) Black Velvet – Alannah Myles

You thought it was going to be a breeze. You got your best sultry voice ready, started off in a low key, the only way is up right? Well, yeah, and that's half the problem. The low verse and high chorus will leave you all over the place!

14) Best Of You - Foo Fighters

Can you shout, solidly, for four minutes? Nope, us neither.

15) Stone Cold – Demi Lovato

Demi is the new diva singer of the younger generation, proving her talent with Skyscraper and then Stone Cold. Both songs are insanely difficult to master. She may make them look easy, but in reality you'll end up out of breath by the first chorus.

16) I Have Nothing – Whitney Houston

A Whitney number will always be a brave challenge. I Have Nothing is so very difficult, but, to be honest any of her classics are hard to pull off. She was the Queen of power ballads after all. Whitney, we salute you.

17) Since U Been Gone – Kelly Clarkson

What? What is this song doing in the list? Just you give it a go and you'll quickly learn why!

18) Life On Mars – David Bowie

This inimitable legend crafted a work of extraterrestrial art with Life On Mars that is very hard to match with bog standard human vocal cords. Whilst it might be one of your favourite songs to sing at karaoke, we'd recommend accepting beforehand that it might force your friends to head for the nearest escape pod!

19) Titanium – David Guetta feat. Sia

The awesome beat of the tune can potentially disguise a few bum notes in the verse, but nothing will hide the inevitable failure of trying to hit that 'Titaniummmm' note in the chorus. Sia, we salute you.

20) Run – Leona Lewis

Such a beautiful song, such stunning vocals – that is, until mere mortals get hold of it. You've got to appreciate the irony of singing "even if you cannot hear my voice" while everybody actually wishes they couldn't!
