You think you can, but you shouldn't: Top 20 songs to avoid

Karaoke is not about showing off a perfectly pitched set of vocal chords, but more about having fun however you sound. That being said, there are some songs that everybody thinks they can sing, but really really shouldn't. It's the beauty of karaoke but it's also the curse; free will to choose songs that you will, without a shadow of doubt, crucify.

We're not judging, oh no, because we too understand that when you sing along in your bedroom on your own you sound great. It was a smash, we know.  Then suddenly you're given a mic and it goes tits-up.  You miss the intro, you can't keep up with the beat and you sound about 5 keys too low for the actual track. How did that even happen?

To try help out where we can, we've thus sourced 20 tracks to avoid. Take heed dearest singers, take heed.

The 'deceptively difficult how do I bail out' songs

Let's kick off with the top 5 songs that you think will be relatively easy to bust out but are in fact insanely difficult. You started off badly, the ending was a mess and the less said about the middle, the better.

1. P!nk - So What

2. Foo Fighters - Best Of You

3. Rihanna - We Found Love

4. A-Ha - Take On Me

5. Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

The 'stupidly high pitched what was I thinking' songs

These top 5 songs will force you to be all over the place with key changes and you just won't know what pitch to start with next. One minute you're in falsetto the next you're trying to compete with the deep baseline. Leave it.

1. Radiohead - Creep

2. Scissor Sisters - I Don't Feel Like Dancin'

3. The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love

4. Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights

5. Blondie - Heart Of Glass

The 'too-hard to even try rap so I'll hum the rest' songs

Here are the top 5 rap tunes we're suggesting not to even try rap because you’ll never keep up, miss out most of the words and it will be a total disaster. We do have 99 problems and your half-rap is one of them.

1. Nicki Minaj - Super Bass

2. Eminem - The Real Slim Shady

3. Jay Z - 99 Problems

4. Christina Aguilera - Can't Hold Us Down

5. Macklemore - Can't Hold Us

The 'these notes are impossible I should just put the mic down' songs

Finally, our top 5 songs that should be left to the professional singers with years of vocal coaching because they’re just too hard to sing. If you ask us, the artists must be aliens. Ain't nobody going to hit those notes.

1. Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come

2. Etta James - At Last

3. Demi Lovato - Skyscraper

4. Mariah Carey - Hero

5. Boys II Men - End Of The Road

Howeverrrrrr, we do always say, embrace the difficult times.  Sure, they're songs to avoid at all costs but are you brave enough to take them on? Can you hit the notes no-one else can? Go for it. We dare you!  Sing along and use #luckyvoice or tag us in on Twitter and Instagram
